ISLAMABAD: Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Oman Trading International are engaged in constructive discussions to secure additional oil cargoes as Pakistan seeks to ensure stable energy supplies amid evolving regional dynamics.
In March, Pakistan imported three petrol cargoes and one diesel shipment from Oman, with two more petrol cargoes expected to arrive later this month, reflecting growing energy cooperation between the two countries.
The development was discussed during a meeting between Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Oman’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Fahad Bin Sulaiman Bin Khalaf Alkharusi. Both sides reviewed the regional energy landscape and explored avenues to further strengthen bilateral collaboration.
The minister highlighted the longstanding and cordial relations between Pakistan and Oman, emphasizing shared history, mutual respect, and strong people-to-people ties. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to expanding energy cooperation and exploring new areas of partnership.
Malik also briefed the ambassador on Pakistan’s strategy to diversify energy imports and enhance supply resilience, including exploring alternative routes and sources beyond the Strait of Hormuz in response to shifting geopolitical conditions.
The Omani ambassador welcomed these efforts and expressed his country’s readiness to support Pakistan in bolstering its energy security. He responded positively to Pakistan’s request for preferential energy cargoes and assured that the matter would be considered favorably.
The meeting further explored opportunities for collaboration in the upstream sector, including oil and gas exploration and production, as both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening strategic ties and expanding cooperation in energy development projects.
